OREANDA-NEWS. January 24, 2008. In 2007, total throughput of Russian port complex exceeded 451 million tonnes (+30 million tonnes, or + 7.2%, year-on-year). Liquid bulk cargo accounted for over 58% of total throughput, which made 264.4 million tonnes (+7.4%, year-on-year). Transshipment of dry cargo amounted to 186.6 million tonnes (+7%, year-on-year), the Association of Commercial Seaports informs. The ports of the North-Western Basin accounted for 46.5% in total transshipment of Russian cargo, that of the Southern ports fell to 35.9%, Far Eastern – grew slightly to 17.6%. 

Throughout the year the ports of the North-Western Basin were at the top in terms of both volumes and growth rates. In 2007, throughput of the region’s ports totaled 209.5 million tonnes of cargo (+over 17 million tonnes, or + 9%, year-on-year) including 82.4 million tonnes of dry cargo (+10.7%) and over 127 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (+8%). 

The growth rates of the southern ports decreased a little. In the reported period, the region’s ports handled 161.8 million tonnes of cargo (+2.1 million tonnes, or +1.3%) including 50.7 million tonnes of dry cargo (+7.3%) and 111.1 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-1.2%). Over 80% of total volume was handled by the operators of Novorossiysk and Tuapse ports.  The throughput of the port of Novorossiysk exceeded 113.4 million tonnes (-0.1%), including 26.8 million tonnes of dry cargo (+4.6%) and 86.6 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-1.4%). Throughput of the port’s largest stevedoring company (Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port OJSC) slightly decreased to 71.7 million tonnes (-3.6%). Transshipment of dry cargo has not changed while that of liquid bulk cargo fell by 5% (17.7 million tonnes and 54 million tonnes respectively). Throughput of Tuapse Commercial Sea Port OJSC totaled 19.5 million tonnes (-8%), including over 14.1 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-1.5%).

The ports of the Far East demonstrated positive dynamics for the first time within the recent-years period. Total throughput of the region’s ports grew by 15% to 79.7 million tonnes including 53.4 million tonnes of dry cargo (+1.3%) and 26 million tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (+60%). Throughput of EXXON NEFTEGAZ (De Castri Bay) increased 10-fold to 11.3 million tonnes;  throughput of RN Nakhodkanefteproduct grew by 33% to 6 million tonnes. 
Throughput of other large operators of the region’s marine terminals was as follows:  Vostochny port OJSC grew by 1.8% million tonnes to 16.3 million tonnes,  Vaninski Commercial Seaport OJSC – 6.4 million tonnes (+0.8%), Commercial Seaport of Nakhodka OJSC – 5.5 million tonnes (-20%), Commercial Port of Vladivostok OJSC – 4.8 million tonnes (+20%). All stevedoring companies of Vostochny port handled over 21.6 million tonnes (+5.8%), those of the port of Nakhodka – 13.4 million tonnes (+0.2%), port of Vladivostok - 10 million tonnes (+10%), Vanino port – 9.9 million tonnes (+4.3%).
