OREANDA-NEWS. On 07 May 2008 was announced, that 25.5 million square metres of housing are to be built in Moscow during 2009-2012.

“It is ruled to realize the program of housing construction in volume of 25.5 million square metres of living area, including 8 million square metres allocated for solving the city-wide social problems, for the purpose of improving the housing conditions of the population during 2009-2012,” Marina Ogloblina, head of Department of economic policy and development of Moscow, said at a session of City Hall.

The official noted that 6 million square metres of housing were planned to be erected in 2009, 6.5 million square metres of housing would be built in each of 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Ms Ogloblina added that the decree stipulated a certain decrease in the construction of housing.

According to her, the decrease is caused by a reduction of the city-owned free lands.

“Therewith an increase of the share of social housing is planned,” Ms Ogloblina concluded.
