OREANDA-NEWS. May 7, 2008. In January-April, 2008, Yuzhny port exceeded its plan for throughput and cargo handling. In the reported period, the port’s throughput totaled 7.204.5 million tonnes against planned 6.940 million tonnes (103.8% against plan). Cargo handling amounted to 4.852.4 million tonnes against planned 4.620 million tonnes (105% against plan). In January-April, the port handled 446 vessels and 54,419 open-top wagons. In April, the port’s throughput totaled 2.004.6 million tonnes against planned 1.745 million tonnes (114.9% against plan; +111.5%, year-on-year). Cargo handling amounted to 1.569.7 million tonnes against planned 1.170 million tonnes (134.2% against plan; +114.4%, year-on-year). In April the port handled 98 vessels and 14,711 open-top wagons.

Yuzhny port is located at the north-western coast of the Black Sea, in ice-free Maly Adzhalyksky (Grigorievsky) estuary, 30 km from Odessa port. The port provides all-the-year-round navigation. The port’s approach channel is 2 miles long and 14.5 meters deep.
