OREANDA-NEWS. On May 09, 2008 The State Chancellery has reached an agreement with the insurers of cruise ship Mona Lisa on an indemnity for the losses incurred by Latvia during the rescue operation of this vessel, reported the Official website www.mk.gov.lv.

At the evening of May 8 the insurer has submitted a letter of indemnity pursuant to the international requirements and has undertaken to cover eligible costs of up to 200,000 EUR. The initial calculation of Latvia’s loses shows that this amount could be as much as 129,939 LVL.

During next two weeks the State Chancellery is going to negotiate the final sums and payment terms with the insurers on the basis of estimates provided by the involved institutions – Latvian Armed Forces, State Fire and Rescue Service, State Police, State Border Guard, Centre of Emergency and Disaster Medicine and Ventspils City Council. It is planned that the indemnity will transferred into the state budget of Latvia by the end of this month.
