OREANDA-NEWS. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is interested in implementing projects together with Belarus in various areas, EBRD President Jean Lemierre said as he met with Economy Minister of Belarus Nikolai Zaichenko in Kyiv. Nikolai Zaichenko is the head of Belarus’ official delegation, which is taking part in the XVII annual session of the EBRD Board of Directors in Kyiv on May 18-19.

The sides also discussed the implementation of the EBRD strategy for Belarus in 2006-2008 and approaches to working out a country strategy for the next term.

Jean Lemierre pointed out essential recent positive changes in Belarus’ investment climate and expressed interest in the EBRD’s participation in carrying out projects for supplying and processing timber as well as projects in the meat and dairy industry, brewing, and banking industries.

On May 19 the presentation “Belarus: window of opportunities for investments and sustainable development” took place. During the presentation Nikolai Zaichenko informed participants of the business forum about business terms in Belarus as well as measures meant to improve the country’s investment climate.
