OREANDA-NEWS. On 19 May 2008 was announced, that on the 11th of May crew of heavy nuclear missile carrier “Admiral Nakhimov” had two reasons for festive formation on deck: Victory Day and ship’s birthday.

Deputy Governor of Arkhangelsk region Mikhail Sitkin, chiefs from Murmansk region came to congratulate military sailors with 19-years anniversary of the ship. Such meetings take place every year. Traditionally guests awarded distinguished sailors, wished crew good health and to return in sea for cruiser.

From 1999 “Admiral Nakhimov” stands near Sevmash berth. In spite of such long period, cruiser is kept in good condition by enterprises services and crew. According to commissioning manager Boris Gulin, at present time repair schedule is being updated. This year shipbuilders prepare for discharge of reactor active zone.

Heavy nuclear missile carrier “Admiral Nakhimov” was built at Baltic Plant (Saint Petersburg) in 1988. At present time out of four ships only two ships are acting: “Admiral Nakhimov” and “Petr Veliky” (built in 1996.). Ships of earlier construction “Admiral Ushakov” and “Admiral Lazarev” are put out of Russian Naval Forces.
