OREANDA-NEWS. May 22, 2008. TransContainer OJSC and TrasGroup LLC plan to build a container terminal in Far Eastern port Zarubino, the company informs. On May 21, Director General of  TransContainer Peotr Baskakov and BOD Chairman of TransGroupMaksim Liksutov signed an agreement of intent to build a container terminal in port Zarubino. The new terminal is to ensure transshipment of containerized cargo considering the growth of export-import and transit flow from the Asia-Pacific region by Trans-Siberia railway. To implement the project the companies will set up a joint venture on parity basis. The JV will build and operate the terminal.

The terminal’s design capacity is 400,000 TEU per year. It is to cover the territory exceeding 18 hectares. The construction is to last for 5 years and to cost over \\$100 million. TrasGroup LLC has been operating Zarubino port from2004. This ice-free port at the south of Primorsk Territory is located at the junction point of the borders of Russia, China and N. Korea providing a convenient gate for foreign trade cargo flow in Russia, North-East provinces of China КНР and Mongolia. As of today, Zarubino is a multifunctional sea terminal able to handle large-capacity vessels. The length of the port’s berth is 650 meters, the depth of passages is up to 12.5 meters).
