OREANDA-NEWS. July 3, 2008. In January-June, 2008, throughput of Iljichevsk port totaled 9.458 million tonnes of cargo (+21.7%, year-on-year), Ukraine Ministry of Transport and Communications informs. In the reported period, the port handled 5.737 million tonnes of general cargo (+39%, year-on-year).

The port’s container throughput amounted to 337,954 TEU (+55.8%). In the first half of 2008, the port handled 114,600 ro-ro units (against 117,000 units handled in January-June 2007).

Transshipment of rolled metal and cast iron totaled 2.491 million tonnes (+52.8%), bulk cargo – 3.029 million tonnes (+10.5%) including 1.370 million tonnes of ore (+16.6%) and 939,000 tonnes of sulfur (+130%).

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo totaled 692,000 (-24.5%, year-on-year) including 254,000 tonnes of oil products (+66%, year-on-year).

In the first half of 2008 transshipment of containers accounted for 25% of total throughput, metal - 19%, ore - 14%, sulfur - 10%, cast iron - 7%, grain - 7%, oil - 4%, crude and oil products  - 3%, other cargoes - 11%.
Iljichevsk Commercial Seaport (Ukraine, Odessa region) has been operating from 1958. The port’s territory is 346 hectares, berth length is 5.4 km. Area of covered storage space is 54.2 thou m2, open storage space – 743.94 thou m2. The port accepts vessels with up to 13 m of draft. No limits as regards length of the vessels. Average depth near the port is 13.5 m, which enable it to serve the vessels of almost any deadweight.
