OREANDA-NEWS. October 7, 2008. The commission checked up the plant’s key documentation, equipment, communications, networks, buildings.

This year the commission consisted exclusively of employees of Kola NPP as Kola NPP has been granted the right of self-inspection. Only two NPPs — Balakovo and Kola — have been granted this right due to their effective performance last winter and excellent results at the last year’s “Best Nuclear Power Plant of Russia.”

The commission has found out that Kola NPP is ready for the winter. The relevant act has been sent to the Central Office of Energoatom Concern. If the act is approved Kola NPP will be granted a certificate confirming that the plant is ready to meet the autumn-winter maxim demand.

The head of the Industrial Department of Kola NPP Sergey Vasilyev says that the preparations for the autumn-winter period consist of a whole complex of measures and are aimed at checking up the preparedness of an NPP for meeting the autumn-winter maximum demand. In the Polar region winter is a very hard time not only for NPP but for hospitals, schools, kindergartens and manufacturing enterprises. Stoppage of electricity supply may cause emergency situations. So, much depends on the preparedness of Kola NPP to ensure stable uninterrupted production and supply of electricity.

The preparations are started in summer and include inspections, scheduled maintenances and constant safety and efficiency control.
