In January-September, 2008, international commercial seaport of Aktau (Kazakhstan) handled 7.719 million tonnes of dry and oil cargo (-4.7%, year-on-year), the port’s materials read. In the reported period, the port handled 1.280.7 million tonnes of dry cargo (+46.3%, year-on-year) including 1.211 million tonnes of metal goods, 116,100 tonnes of grain.

Total transshipment of oil and oil products fell by 19%, year-on-year, to 6.154 million tonnes including 683,289 tonnes of crude.

The port’s ferry complex handled 168,600 tonnes of cargo.      
The port of Aktau is located at the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea. It is the only seaport of Kazakhstan to serve international transportation of dry cargo, oil and oil products. The port works all-the-year-round. The port may accept vessels with length of up to 150 meters and breadth of up to 20 meters, with draft not exceeding 6.2 meters.
