OREANDA-NEWS. October 28, 2008. In 2000–2008, Buguruslanneft, a subsidiary of TNK-BP, discovered 8 new deposits in seven oil fields in the Orenburg Region and increased its oil reserves by 5.5 million tons, the press service of TNK-BP said to the Petroleum News Agency (ANI) citing the Chief Geologist Sergey Krotov, reported the press-centre of TNK-BP.

“The Buguruslan oil province is one of the oldest oil production areas in the Orenburg Region. Currently, the extent of depletion of oil reserves here amounts to 86%. No prospecting and exploratory drilling works were performed in this region since 1996. Now the emphasis is made on further exploration of the existing and apparently well-explored fields that are in operation for more than 50 years now.

As a results of detailed and comprehensive studies in 2000–2008, eight new deposits were discovered in seven old fields. The increment of oil reserves in these fields amounted to 5.5 million tons,” said Mr. Krotov.

Apart from that, added he, new oil deposits of the Upper Carboniferous period were discovered near the Bolshekinelskiy bar this year after a complex of studies conducted in this region. “According to our tentative information, the reserves of industrial categories in the deposits of the Upper and Middle Carboniferous period are estimated at approximately 8 million tons of oil.

The results of exploration and studies show that these deposits are quite promising. Next year, we are going to continue studies in other areas of the Bolshekinelskiy bar,” said Mr. Krotov.
