OREANDA-NEWS  On 01 November was announced, that First School of Metrology and Standardization in Nanotechnologies and Nanoindustry in Russian was opened. It’s been organized by the Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies (RUSNANO) together with the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology.

The School aims to increase metrology and standardization competencies among specialists working in testing and multipurpose centers and laboratories in nanoindustry areas, including participants in the NANOCERTIFICA certification system for nanoindustry manufacture. 110 students are attending the School, including 15 students from Russian specialist universities.

Lectures will be done by leading Russian scientists, all specialists in certification, standardization and metrology: the head of the Federal agency for technical regulation and metrology Vladimir Krutikov, Russian Academy of Science (RAS) Fellow, Director of the RAS Institute of metals physics in Yekaterinburg, Vladimir Ustinov, and the Director General of the Scientific research center on the study of the properties of surface and vacuum Pavel Todua – approximately about 30 lecturers. The list of foreign scientists includes Dannong He, professor at National Engineering Research Center of Nanotechnology, Xing ZHU, professor of physics, deputy director of National Center for Nanoscience and Technology (Beijing), Chunying CHEN, professor at National Center for Nanoscience and Technology (Beijing), Andras Vladar from the National Institute of Standardization and Technologies of the USA, and Harald Bosse, head of Germany’s Department for dimensional nanometrology.

An exhibition and presentations of contemporary metrological and analytical equipment from leading producers for the nanoindustry are also being organized at the School. Among the exhibits to be presented are the Nanoscan, which is designed to determine mechanical properties on nano-scales, instruments for defining the characteristics of nano-powders and nano-structural materials, and scanning probe microscopes, which make it possible to conduct measurements in more than 50 different environments.

‘The network of test centers that will collaborate with the NANOCERTIFICA certification system is still being formed, but over the long term hundreds of centers will participate. Therefore there is a real need for qualified personnel in certification and metrology, and the organization of this school is entirely justified. We plan to develop schools on a regular basis,’ emphasized the head of the RUSNANO certification center Victor Ivanov.

The first school will conclude its work on November 1st. Details and its participants’ official reports will be available online from November 6th at the NANOCERTIFICA site: www.nanocertifica.ru.

The NANOCERTIFICA certification system was founded by the Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies and placed in the registry of voluntary certification by the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology on May 28th 2008.

NANOCERTIFICA’s tasks entail the quality control and certification of nanoindustry production, produced and extended in the Russian Federation (including with projects supported by RUSNANO); the prevention of mistakes by users of nano-products; rejection of products that could cause harm to the user or containing a potential threat to the user’s health or the environment; the development of the market for qualitative nano-production in Russia; and the provision of assistance to manufacture and the export of domestic, competitive nano-industry products.

NANOCERTIFICA was created by the Russian Corporation of Nanotechnologies, initially to guarantee the certification of products created in the course of RUSNANO investment projects. However, the dynamic development of the Russian market for nanoindustry demanded a system of certification that would be ready to evaluate and to approve the application of any other nanoindustry product designed in the Russian Federation, in order to protect users from unscrupulous manufacturers both here and abroad, and providing quality control and safety for new nanomaterials and other nanotechnological products of nano-technologies.
