OREANDA-NEWS. February 12, 2009. In January 2009, the port of Tallinn handled 2.486 million tonnes of cargo (+2.5%, year-on-year), the port informs. In the reported period, transshipment of liquid bulk cargo totaled 2.019.3 million tonnes (+16.3%), general cargo – 17,000 tonnes (-52.4%), dry cargo – 167,400 tonnes (-34.4%).

The port’s container throughput amounted to 11,850 TEU (-11.2%). In the reported period, the port’s export-import turnover totaled 2.056 million tonnes (+5.6%) including 204,300 tonnes of export cargo (-8.5%) and 1.852 million tonnes of transit cargo (+7.4%). Domestic export-import traffic fell by 9.1% to 425,200 tonnes 161,800 tonnes of import (-34.6%) and 263,400 tonnes of transit cargo (+19.4%).

Commercial Seaport of Tallinn is a large cargo and passenger seaport located at the southern shore of the Tallinn Bay. It was founded in 1219. Tallinn is the third largest port of the Baltic Sea after St. Petersburg and Primorsk. The port consists of 5 port ones: Muuga, Old City Harbour, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa.
