OREANDA-NEWS. July 7, 2009. In the first half of 2009, the port of Archangelsk handled 1,684,210 tonnes of cargo (-34%, year-on-year) including 298,970 tonnes of cargo handled in June (-27.4%, year-on-year), the port administration informs.

In the 6-month period transshipment of export cargo totaled 621,900 tonnes (-38.9%, year-on-year) including 211,900 tonnes of timber (-24.8%), 5,100 tonnes of loaded containers (-73.7%), 25,900 tonnes of other general cargo (up over 5-fold), 294,600 tonnes of oil products (+0.5%). Transshipment of coastal trade cargo amounted to 724,500 tonnes (-44.5%) including 27,100 tonnes of loaded containers (+95.5%), 74,500 tonnes of other general cargo (-11.7%), 577,000 tonnes of oil products (-50.5%).

In January-June the port accepted 337,800 tonnes of cargo (+44.8%, year-on-year) including 252,200 tonnes of import cargo (+73.6%): 6,800 tonnes of loaded containers (-70.1%), 108,000 tonnes of other general cargo (up 4.9 times), 137,300 tonnes of ferrous metal (+46.7%). Incoming coastal trade cargo totaled 85,600 tonnes (-2.8%) including 13,500 tonnes of loaded containers (up 7.1 times) and 72,600 tonnes of other general cargo (-16.4%).

The port of Archangelsk is located in the estuary of the Severnaya Dvina flowing into the White Sea. This port with a round-the-year navigation is on the way of the Northern Sea Route. The port specializes in transshipment of general cargo, cellulose, cardboard, containers, timber, metal, fertilizers, heavy equipment and dry bulk cargo. ACS’s facilities enable it to handle 4.5 million tonnes of cargo per year.
