OREANDA-NEWS. July 20, 2009. In the first half of 2009, the port of Liepaja (Latvia) handled 2.05 mln t of cargo (-8.2%, year-on-year), the port states. In the reported period, transshipment of dry cargo increased by 2.3% to 942,600 tonnes including 812,800 tonnes of grain (+22.1%, year-on-year).

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 47.3% to 280,500 tonnes including 85,800 tonnes of crude (-40.4%) and 126,100 tonnes of oil products (-61.8%, year-on-year).

Transshipment of general cargo increased by 6.1% to 786,100 tonnes.
 
The port of Liepaja is the third busiest port of Latvia. In 2008, the port of Liepaja handled 4.19 million tonnes of cargo.
