OREANDA-NEWS. July 20, 2009. In the first half of 2009, Taganrog Commercial Seaport handled 455,000 tonnes of cargo (-30%, year-on-year), the company reports. In the 6-month period the company handled 128 vessels and over 4,000 wagons.

The company attributes the decrease to the business loss of consignors in the context of the financial crisis. However transshipment of liquid bulk cargo increased by 121% to 141,000 tonnes, coal - 18% to 241,000 tonnes. The increase was driven by optimization of oil terminal operation and by attraction of additional coal cargo to the port.

Transshipment of import cargo fell by 93% to 13,900 tonnes, export – by 32% to 299,000 tonnes. Transshipment of coastal trade cargo exceeded 142,000 tonnes (this type of cargo was not handled in the first half of 2008).

In the reported period the company handled over 18,000 tonnes of steel (-66%), 13,400 tonnes of grain (-31%). The company’s container throughput totaled some 3,000 TEU (-89%).
