OREANDA-NEWS. October 20, 2009. The President of FESCO Transportation group Sergey Generalov has signed The Copenhagen Communique, calling to limit the ecological impact and to resist global climate change.

During The United Nations confederation concerning climate changes, held in United Nations headquarters in New-York, more than 500 leaders of the international companies joined this international agreement. The Copenhagen communique aims world political leaders to work out the innovative agreement concerning environment at the United Nations summit on problems of climate changes which will be held in Copenhagen in December this year.

The Communique was signed by such world-known companies as Cisco, Coca-Cola, General Electric, HP, Procter & Gamble, Adidas, Allianz, British Airways, Nestle, Philips, Rolls-Royce and many others. Among Russian corporations, 2 more companies — ?Industrial investors? (the main FESCO shareholder) and ALROSA — also supported an appeal to create the program of preventing climate change.

Modern business leaders realize that problems of environmental protection are out of competitive struggle but in area of mutual responsibility. Business contribution in common cause will depend on clarity and innovation of new program of climate influence restriction.

Companies which have signed The Copenhagen communique want the following points to be included into the new agreement:

— Long-term plan (from 2013 to 2050) on reduction of gas emissions creating greenhouse effect;

— Reduction of gas emissions in developed countries has to be realized faster than on average in the world;

— Developing countries have to provide reduction of gas emissions according to their own possibilities and responsibility measures.

It should be noted that the signed communique continues FESCO policy in the sphere of environmental protection. FESCO ?Green? strategy assumes to carry out intermodal transportations through the Trans-Siberian Railway as an alternative of deep-sea shipping. For example, the intermodal transportation on a route of Shanghai-Moscow allow reducing atmospheric emissions of CO2 by 40%, SOx by a factor of 3.5 and NOx — by a factor of 10 in comparison with deep-sea shipping.
