OREANDA-NEWS. January 11, 2010. The Uzbek-Kyrgyz intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation held a session in Tashkent. Representatives of various ministries and departments of the two states participated in the meeting, reported the Official website gov.uz.

The sides said the trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan was developing dynamically.

First Vice Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Rustam Azimov expressed confidence that the session would serve to further development of bilateral partnership in all directions.

Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Daniyar Usenov noted that his country was interested in deepening ties with Uzbekistan.

In 2008, the bilateral trade turnover increased by 44% to USD 256 million. In the first half of 2009, the figure reached USD 140 million.

Both countries have enough potential to increase trade volumes, the sides agreed. The possible areas for expansion of cooperation are textile and pharmaceutical industries, as well as agricultural products processing.

The parties analyzed the current state of bilateral economic relations and outlines tasks for expansion of cooperation in the future.

The considered issues included expansion of the number of joint ventures, efficient use of water energy resources, transport communications and transit.
