OREANDA-NEWS. January 11, 2010. Prime Minister Vlad Filat will pay a visit to the United States on 19-23 January 2010 to sign a Compact programme's agreement on full financing from the funds of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and a memorandum on principles and procedures between Moldova and the North Carolina state on the wish to strengthen the good relations.

Prime Minister Vlad Filat made a statement to this effect in a report on the government's activity during the first 100 days.

The prime minister stressed that the assistance given by the USA in the form of grant will be directed to Moldova's economic development. Filat also said that the aid will contribute to improving the roads' infrastructure, increasing the production and sale of high-quality farming goods.

The report also shows that Moldova's relations with the United States represent one of the priority objectives of Moldova's foreign policy. In this respect, we plan to elaborate documents on cooperation which will boost the bilateral ties, the prime minister added.

MOLDPRES specifies that the Board of Directors of the US Government s Millennium Challenge Corporation approved a 262-million-dollar-worth Compact programme for Moldova on 30 November 2009. The assistance will be given in the form of grant for two fields - agriculture and transport - during a five-year period.

A project, Transition to Performing Agriculture, worth 102 million dollars, sees the restoration of 11 centralised irrigation systems, due to cover an area of more than 15,000 hectares. Another project, Roads Restoration, estimated at 133 million dollars, sees works of repair of 93 km of one of the most important roads from north-eastern Moldova, Sarateni-Soroca towards Otaci.
