OREANDA-NEWS. January 11, 2010. IES-Holding has recently commissioned Turbine Set-2 at Sormovo HPP, Generation Center Division. They completed retrofitting works which will let increase the installed electrical capacity of the plant to 65 MW.

Turbine Set-2 of Sormovo HPP was retrofitted as part of Amber project under the Diadem investment program of IES-Holding. The more-than-thirty-years-old equipment outlived its usefulness and was thus subject to disposal. Therefore, it was decided to retrofit this equipment and increase its installed capacity. The respective works were carried out from March to November 2009 and included complete replacement or reconstruction of most turbine set assemblies and even of the HP cylinder, which is the most complex turbine part.

In addition to an increase in electric and heat power, this upgrade will ensure more reliable power supply to consumers and considerably reduce demand costs of power and heat, as well as dangerous emissions.

Amber investment project of IES-Holding provides for similar works at Turbine Set-1 of Sormovo HPP. Its installed capacity will also be increased to 65 MW; its commissioning is planned for 2010. The total investments into the upgrade of the two turbine sets will amount to more than RUR1 billion.

"Reconstruction of Sormovo HPP using up-to-date resource-recovery technologies will contribute to energy efficiency and reliability of power supply to consumers of the Nizhny Novgorod Region," said Aleksandr Kolokoltsev, Head of Generation Center, Vice-President of IES Holding.

At the same time, IES-Holding is implementing two more investment projects in the Nizhny Novgorod Region - Quartz (reconstruction of Igumnovo HPP) and Ruby (capacity expansion of Novogorkovskaya HPP).
