OREANDA-NEWS. July 01, 2010. SOCAR president Mr. Rovnag Abdullayev met with Syrian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Mr. Sufian Allaw attending the first meeting of Syrian-Azerbaijani intergovernmental commission in Baku. By welcoming the guests, Mr. Abdullayev praised the current level of the political ties between Azerbaijan and Syria.

The Syrian minister said his country attaches great importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan. He expressed assurance that Baku meeting of intergovernmental commission would contribute to further cooperation development between the two nations by pointing out that SOCAR and Syrian Petroleum Company had broad opportunities to enjoy cooperation. The minister said his country was interested in signing an agreement on export of Azeri gas to Syria.

He also expressed his company’s interest in cooperation on exploration and operation of hydrocarbons, oil products delivery, and purchase and sale of oil devices along with SOCAR. According to Mr. Sufian Allaw, the first meeting of intergovernmental commission will contribute to the development of bilateral relations by mentioning that Syria will support a role of a bridge to Arabian world, and Azerbaijan, in turn - a bridge to the Central Asia. The meeting covered the transportation perspectives of Azerbaijani gas to Syria as well.
