OREANDA-NEWS. July 21, 2010. Power Machines completed manufacture and effected shipment of two turbine pump runners for hydraulic units Nos. 1 and 2 of Zagorskaya Pumped Storage Power Plant-2.

The contract for procurement of turbine pumps for Zagorskaya PSPP second-phase construction project, which is currently underway, has been signed by Power Machines and Zagorskaya PSPP-2 OJSC in October 2007. Under the terms of the contract, the power engineering company is to design, manufacture, model test, and supply four turbine pumps rated at 235 MW each designated for the plant’s four hydraulic units. Power Machines’ engineers will also carry out installation work. The contract value amounts to approximately 3 bln rubles.

Power Machines company is now completing the manufacture of the third turbine pump while the production of the fourth one is in progress.

Zagorskaya PSPP-2 (rated capacity: 920 MW) is being built in proximity to Zagorskaya PSPP. The new plant is included into the Master Plan for the Allocation of Power Facilities until 2020. The PSPP-2 is expected to balance daily load patterns in Moscow region’s power system through the generation and consumption of electric energy, control of effective and reactive output, and voltage regulation.

This is Russia’s second pumped storage power plant of such a large size. For the first one, Zagorskaya PSPP, turbine pumps were manufactured by Power Machines’ branch, Leningradsky Metallichesky Zavod, in the mid 1980s. Compared to these old pumps, the newly built equipment features numerous technological innovations ensuring its high performances.
