OREANDA-NEWS. September 09, 2010. DTEK, Ukraine’s leading fuel and energy company, announces today that the Ministry of  Fuel and Energy of Ukraine has approved an increase in the installed capacity of unit # 7 at its Kurakhovskaya thermal power plant (TPP), by 15 MW from 210MW to 225MW.  The cost of the first stage of reconstruction, undertaken between May 2009 and March 2010, amounted to UAH81.9m.

The first stage of the reconstruction works included the upgrade of the unit’s core operating equipment, which determines the unit’s efficiency: turbine, boiler, generator and transformer. The tests conducted have demonstrated an increase in the unit’s capacity, improved reliability and an expanded range by 55 MW.

In May 2010, the second stage of the reconstruction began. This phase includes the replacement of the generator’s circuit-breaker, thyristor excitation system and high-voltage electric drives.

The upgrade of the electric precipitator and introduction of a desulphurization installation will cut sulphur oxide emissions by 60%, reinforcing DTEK’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its operations.  The core innovation that DTEK has deployed in the reconstruction of the unit will be a new automated control system to ensure more cost effective operation of the unit.

Reconstruction of four power units of Vostokenergo LLC (no. 1 and no. 2 at Zuevskaya TPP, no. 5 and no. 7 at Kurakhovskaya TPP) conducted in 2007-2010, has also resulted in the growth of the installed capacity of power generation equipment by 72 MW.
