OREANDA-NEWS. September 14, 2010. Izhorskiye Zavody, a part of OMZ Group, has successfully completed the control assembly of the first VVER-1200 reactor shell for Novovoronezhskaya NPP-2 nuclear power plant.

The control assembly results were evaluated by the committee comprising representatives of OKB Gidropress, Novovoronezhskaya NPP-2, FGUP VO Bezopasnost, OAO Atomenergoproekt and specialists of Izhorskiye Zavody.

Control assembly of a reactor shell with vessel internals and the upper unit cover is one of the final stages of the reactor shell manufacturing before the delivery to the customer.

It is the first nuclear reactor manufactured in Russia for a Russian nuclear power plant in the last 20 years. According to the NPP-2006 project, VVER-1200 reactor design and manufacturing process include a number of enhancements aimed to increase safety, improve performance and raise the unit life cycle to 60 years.

The contract for manufacturing and delivery of the power equipment for Novovoronezhskaya NPP-2 was signed in 2007. The contract involves manufacturing of two primary equipment kits for the VVER-1200 reactor, including reactor shells, steam generator casings, vessel internals with overall weight of over 3500 tons.
