OREANDA-NEWS. September 23, 2010. International independent organisation The World Economic Forum held the fourth Annual Meeting of the New Champions in Tianjin, China. SCM was a partner of the event.

This year the theme of the Meeting of the New Champions, also known as Summer Davos, was Driving Growth Through Sustainability. In the view of the event organisers and delegates, the theme best reflects the global trends of economic development: impossibility to build a strong and effective business without following the principles and standards of the social responsibility.

The event programme was in line with the theme: the Forum primarily discussed energy efficiency, reduction of greenhouse emissions, development of green technologies and production modernization. Economic, industrial and technological innovations were also presented at the Meeting.

The Annual Meeting of the New Champions was traditionally Asia's largest economic forum. This year the Summit gathered over 1,000 delegates. Among them were representatives of the world's biggest businesses and academic community, statesmen and journalists of leading newspapers and magazines.

SCM, one of the event partners, was represented by Jock Mendoza-Wilson, Director of International and Investor Relations and Amir Aisautov, Director of Mining & Metals Business Development.

"The fact that the event organised by the World Economic Forum was first and foremost dedicated to responsible business once again highlights the importance of CSR. It means that the development strategy adopted by SCM is based on social responsibility and fully meets recommendations of the global business community,” stated Jock Mendoza-Wilson.

"It's not a secret that steel industry, one of the SCM Group's core businesses, is a very energy-intensive industry that has a significant environmental footprint. For this reason we understand better than others the challenges arising from the inefficient energy consumption and realise the need for changes. Investment in energy saving, complete modernisation of our operating companies and implementation of energy efficient technologies today is the first priority for SCM. Such meetings as Summer Davos primarily offer an opportunity for like-minded people around the world to exchange practices that will help us to turn the challenges into opportunities," added Amir Aisautov.
