OREANDA-NEWS. December 06, 2010. Freight traffic volume passing through the Port of Archangelsk in January-November this year surged by 41.3% compared with the same period last year to 4,263 million tons.

The volume of handled exports of pulp and paper mill increased by 5% to 84,300 tons, timber cargo rose by 9.5% to 474,000 tons, coal volume soared 2.3 times to 302,500 tons, petroleum products increased by almost twofold, to 997,200 tons.

Throughput of crude oil in the coastal trade slumped by 3.4 times to 212,400 tons, cargo carried by river ships increased by 18% to 213,400 tons, other general cargoes grew by 15.7%, to 462,700 tons.

In the reporting period transshipment of inbound general cargo rose by 42% to 485,300 tons.

In November, the port's freight turnover grew by 29.2% to 320,300 tons.
 
Arkhangelsk, a year-round navigable seaport, is located in the delta of the Northern Dvina River flowing into the White Sea. The Northern Sea Route freight traffic passes through the port’s terminals.
 
The port’s stevedores handle a wide range of cargo, including general, cellulose, cardboard, containers, timber, metals, fertilizers, heavy equipment bulk and liquid cargoes. The Arkhangelsk port is capable to transship up to 4.5 million tons of cargo annually.
