OREANDA-NEWS. January 27, 2011.  Atommed Center LLC has won the tender and concluded a contract with Ural Federal University for establishment of an electron-beam sterilization center in Yekaterinburg.

The center will be based on the ULV 10/10 linear electron accelerator with energy up to 10 MeV and power per beam from 10 to 15 kW, developed in the D. V. Ephremov SRIEA (an enterprise belonging to Rosatom State Corporation).

The center will major in beam sterilization of medical equipment and pharmaceutical components produced by enterprises of Ural Federal District.

The center establishment was caused by the needs of medical equipment manufacturers. Zdravmedtech-Yekaterinburg Association, which is expected to provide up to 30% of the center load, appears to be the main partner of the center.

E-beam sterilization guarantees the highest index of sterility – 10–6. This is an ecologically pure process of high efficiency. The variety of medical equipment, able to undergo radiological sterilization, works out more then 80 types (254 assortment names).

Besides supply and installation of the accelerator, Atommed Center will also prepare a business-plan, organize staff trainings and licensing. Under the terms of the tender all these works should have been completed in December, 2011. Thus, Atommed Center stepped out onto a new market, having begun to implement not only engineering projects but also ready-to-operate businesses.

The establishment of the center of medical equipment e-beam sterilization will provide much load to Rosatom enterprises, due to the native accelerator manufactured by D. V. Ephremov SRIEA would be installed in Yekaterinburg. In the course of time similar projects are expected to be implemented in other Russian districts as well, the respective negotiations are already being held.
