OREANDA-NEWS. April 18, 2011. The corporate “green” standard of SC "Olymstroy" was approved and is due to come in effect on June 1, 2011. Responsible executors and contractors for all Olympic venues will be offered to pass a voluntary certification under SC "Olymstroy" “Green” Standard.

Today it is the first “green” standard in Russia. It becomes one of the foundation documents for the national green standard and the key constituent of environmental legacy of the Olympic Games in Sochi. The document was developed together with the Non Commercial Enterprise “Center for Environmental Certification – “Green Standards”.

Beside the Russian environmental legislation, the standard incorporates additional environmental requirements and recommendations (AER&R) developed in conjunction with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Russia and approved by the Supervisory Board of SC "Olympstroy" as well as international “green” standards BREEAM and LEED.

The corporate “green” standard lays down requirements to all construction areas: environmental management, landscaping, water consumption, energy efficiency, quality and comfort of habitat and life safety, for each of which an applicant must obtain a certain number of points. Requirements set out by the standard may apply not only to buildings and structures but also to engineering and transport facilities and infrastructure. “The document contains an extremely detailed list of “green” construction conditions: from the utilization of renewable energy sources and collection of rainwater for landscape watering to greenery of facades, bicycle lanes arrangement, bicycle parking areas and public transport availability. A total of 100 criteria”, said Gleb Vatletsov, Director of the Environmental Support Department of SC "Olympstroy".
