OREANDA-NEWS. May 25, 2011. In late April 2011, Vyksa Steel Works (VSW, Nizhni Novgorod Region), part of United Metallurgical Company (OMK), obtained certificates for compliance of its passenger railroad car wheels with the federal railroad transportation safety requirements. The certificates were issued by the Federal Railroad Transportation Certification Register (FRTCR).

VSW obtained two certificates: one for a pilot series of wheels made of steel L in accordance with TU 0943-202-01124323-2005 "Solid Wheels of Enhanced Quality Designed for Passenger Railroad Cars" and one for a pilot series of wheels made of steel 1 in accordance with the requirements of GOST 10791-2004 "Solid Wheels."

The certificates confirm that VSW wheels are highly safe and of high quality. The main customer for VSW railroad wheels is Russian Railways. In January 2011, OMK and Russian Railways entered into a long-term contract specifying that within 5 years VSW would produce and supply more than 3.2 million railroad wheels for the Customer.
