OREANDA-NEWS. January 06, 2012. An avenue running along Chaohu Lake, which is currently under construction, will cut driving time from Hefei, the capital city and Chaohu, the newly joined area of the city to no more than 40 minutes.

The construction is viewed as a move to better connect Hefei with Chaohu, after the major administrative adjustment including former Chaohu City and Lujiang County into Hefei earlier this year.

The whole line of the avenue, measuring 155 kilomters, is expected to be put into operation in 2014. One project, a bridge crossing over South Fei River will be completed in this April, allowing a section linking Binhu District and downtown area of Chaohu to be open for traffic in June.

The avenue will also contribute to local tourism industry, since it goes through a series of scenic spots in Chaohu Lake, Binhu District, Sanhe Ancient Town and Lujiang County.

Apart from the avenue, 4 other road projects are on the work agenda of the city's transportation bureau, namely, expansion of Hefei-Ma'anshan Expressway, renovation on Hefei-Tongling Expressway, construction of a road section linking Langan Town of Chaohu to Binhu Avenue, and renovation on Jun'er Road of Lujiang County.
