OREANDA-NEWS. February 3, 2012. In January, 2012, having considered the application by OAO Irkutskenergo to allocate a land plot for construction of Lenskaya CHPP and upon public consultations, Ust-Kut municipality approved of OAO Irkutskenergo’s land plot selection act and preliminarily agreed on the construction location. The land plot is situated in Ust-Kut between the districts of Rechniki and Birusinka. The area of the plot is 260,000 sq.m.

In 2010, EuroSibEnergo and Yangtze Power (China) announced the establishment of YES-Power – a joint venture intending to introduce energy capacity up to 10 GW in total in Siberia and the Far East. One of the joint projects is construction of steam and gas Lenskaya CHPP (with the capacity of 1.2 GW). The approximate cost of the project is up to USD 2 bln, the first stage (400 MW) can be commissioned as early as in 2015. Properties to be supplied with power generated by Lenskaya CHPP include: Udokan copper deposit requiring 450 MW, Chiney iron-ore deposit (150-200 MW), Kholodninsky GOK (30 MW), oil pipeline “Eastern Siberia – Pacific” (capacity requirements after the extension of the second stage is 80 MW) and the Baikal-Amur Mainline.

CEO of OAO EuroSibEnergo and OAO Irkutskenergo Evgeny Fedorov: “Upon reception of the act of the land plot selection, the project has gained real substance. By constructing a power plant in Ust-Kut we primarily contribute to the future of the region which has considerable reserves of natural gas, earlier or later to be recovered in significant volumes. Only the primary projects demand 300 MW. Therefore, Lenskaya CHPP is a chance for Eastern Siberia to get developed infrastructure and make an economic breakthrough”.
