OREANDA-NEWS.  February 3, 2012. Cargo traffic at Estonian port of Tallinn in January 2012 totaled 2,869,500 tons, down 4.4% from Jan. 2011, the Port Authority said.

Container throughput for the period grew by 23.2% to 17,173 TEUs. Handling of liquid bulk slid 9.5% to 2,340,700 tons, while dry bulk cargo rose 14.9% to 362,200 tons. Shipments of rolling cargo totaled 291,800 tons, (+8.5%).

There were 516 calls (including passenger ship arrivals) in January, or 7.7% below 2011’s numbers.

Port of Tallinn ranks third among largest seaport, next to St. Petersburg and Primorsk, on the Baltic Sea. The Port comprises five so-called port zones: Muuga, Old City Harbor, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2011, Port of Tallinn’s throughput totaled 36.5 million tons.
