OREANDA-NEWS. April 13, 2012. The under-construction Jiuhua Mountain Airport is expected to go into trial operation early in October, a person responsible for the project said on Wednesday.

"We are now engaged in building runways and installing lights used as a type of navigational aids, communication systems, navigation systems and weather observation systems," Wu Fei, who is in charge of the project said, adding that the aircraft movement area will be completed by August.

Construction on terminals started in March and is planned to end within three months, Wu said.

"All projects are required to be completed before the end of August, and the airport is expected to be put into experimental operation around the annual National Day which falls on October 1," the chief said.

Although the deadline is tight, quality of the project will be ensured, Wu promised.

With a total investment of 609 million yuan, the Jiuhua Mountain Airport is situated in Meilong township, Chizhou city of Anhui province, 20 kilometers away from the renowned Buddhist mountain.

Flights will be operated from the airport to those in domestic cities of Beijing, Xiamen, Qingdao or Yantai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Xi'an, while international routes may also be launched to Republic of Korea (ROK), Japan and Southeast Asian countries, sources said.
