OREANDA-NEWS. June 4, 2012. The official opening of the tourist route "Strelna Mountain in Zhigulevskoe reserve in the Samara region has taken place- the press service of Ministry of Natural Resources reported.

The report notes that on the mountain Strelna the unique natural complex of the oldest communities in the Volga region relict pine forests and rocky steppes is preserved.

"As a result of reconstruction of the route that began in 2011, the trail became safe and accessible for young children and the elderly. Some parts of the route are also accessible  for the people with disabilities" - said the press office.

In 2012 Zhigulevskoe Reserve is planning to carry out the reconstruction of the administration building, the museum and continue the improvements of the route that leads to the “stone bowl”.

The Ministry of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy of the Samara region said that the guided tours include car trips, during which the tourist will see the natural features of the Zhiguli mountains, find out about the history of exploration and colonization of this land and enjoying superb views.

The length of the route is 15 km, duration 4:00. A walking tour takes about 30 minutes.

The history of the origin of the name of Strelna Mountain dates back to the Volga freemen, when treeless rocky ledge on top of it was a convenient watch place for highwaymen. From this natural watchtower, or "Strelna", as it was called then, the neighborhood  was  within a perfect view. Seen from a distance merchant boats had no hope of escaping the Cossack plane.
