OREANDA-NEWS. June 5, 2012. Security Department of Chuvashenergo, a branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC, summed up the results of five-month work carried out this year. Security guards detected three thefts from power facilities of the Company: electric wire (thievish citizens stole 2 km of wire with a total weight of 800 kg) and one power meter (it was torn off unguarded 10/0.4 kV package transformer substation). As a result of these thefts, the Company incurred losses to the amount of 43.3 th. rubles (including the cost of repair works). “The authorities of internal affairs initiated criminal cases for three thefts of property under the Article 158 of RF Penal Code. However, two cases were suspended as the authorities failed to find guilty persons,” explained the representatives of Chuvashenergo, a branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC. The reader is reminded that last year the Company suffered from four thefts (7.5 km of wire weighed at 1.7 tons). Chuvashenergo incurred losses to the amount of up to 170 th. rubles (including the cost of repair works). Due to the investigative efforts of the Economic Crime Department of the Chuvash Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Security Department of Chuvashenergo, a branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC, the number of thefts from the power facilities of the Company has decreased. The personnel of the above Departments jointly carried out raids over ferrous metal recycling yards. In addition, police officers and Company's personnel addressed the population via mass media asking to locate illegal non-ferrous and ferrous metal recycling yards and persons involved in thefts of high voltage wires. The experience shows that people vividly answer such calls and report any damage to the republican electric grid facilities directly to power engineers or to the authorities of internal affairs. Chuvashenergo emphasized that this close cooperation with Chuvash residents would further contribute to reduction in the number of crimes and thus to smooth and failure-free power supply to consumers.
