OREANDA-NEWS. June 05, 2012.  The construction of Adler’s new railway station is part of the preparations for upgrading the Sochi region’s transport infrastructure in advance of the Olympic Winter Games due to be held there in 2014.

Adler station will be a transport interchange hub combining all types of passenger transport: rail, road, air and sea following the construction of berths and moorings. The station already has an intermodal connection to Sochi airport, which was opened in February 2012.

The plan for the new building envisages the construction of seven levels with a total area of 23,000 square metres capable of holding 2,030 passengers and handling a total of 15,000 people per hour.

The railway station consists of three parts: a car park for 555 vehicles, the marine and urban parts of the building and a concourse which connects them.

Work on the construction of the station is being carried out on schedule and is now 67% complete. The station is expected to be commissioned in the fourth quarter of this year.

Adler’s new station, along with the development of track infrastructure, will allow an increase in the frequency of suburban trains between Tuapse - Adler and improve the situation on the roads along the Black Sea coast.
