OREANDA-NEWS. June 06, 2012.  Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the maker of Subaru automobiles, today announced that its North American production base, Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc. (SIA) received ISO 50001 Certification as the first car manufacturing plant in the U.S. to achieve this internationally recognized accreditation.

Launched in 2011, ISO 50001 outlines the internationally recognized requirements for energy management systems (EnMS). The standard provides organizations with management strategies to increase energy efficiency, reduce costs and improve energy performance.

SIA's ISO 50001 Certification, awarded by DEKRA Certification, Inc. on June 4 local time, demonstrates the company's commitment to continual improvement in the area of energy conservation and its environmental leadership in the auto industry. SIA was also the first U.S. car manufacturing plant to achieve the ISO 9001 Quality Management Certification and the first to achieve the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification.
