OREANDA-NEWS. June 14, 2012. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) registered the fourteenth Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project of Uzbekistan “Reducing gas leaks in low pressure and medium pressure gas distribution networks in Khorezm region and Republic of Karakalpakstan”.

National CDM Body said that the project will allow to cut 768,000 tonnes of Certified Emission Reductions (CER) a year. The project is implemented by Uztransgaz joint stock company.

Currently, the UNFCCC registered fourteen CDM projects of Uzbekistan with total planned emission reductions of about 7.041 million tonnes of CO2-equivallent a year.

It is worth to mention that Uzbekistan leads in Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on number of projects and in the world – 7th place on calculated volume of emission reduction and 19th place on number of registered CDM projects.
