OREANDA-NEWS. June 15, 2012. At the ATOMEXPO 2012 Forum the Director General of JSC “Techsnabexport” (TENEX), Mr. Alexey A. Grigoriev and the Senior Vice President of the United States Enrichment Corporation (USEC), Mr. Philip G. Sewell, signed Amendment No. 020 to the Initial Implementing Contract for the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the United States of America concerning the disposition of highly enriched uranium extracted from nuclear weapons. The signed amendment is intended by TENEX and USEC to ensure the fulfillment of the HEU-LEU Agreement up to the period of its expiration in the year 2013, and will be submitted to their respective governments for review.

The Amendment qualifies several technical and logistical aspects that will ensure the full (in terms of the physical volumes of the downblended  HEU) and timely completion of the historical HEU-LEU US-Russian Agreement.

"The successful implementation of the HEU-LEU Agreement is an important contribution of the two countries to the fulfillment of their international obligations in the field of reduction of the nuclear threat. That is why it is so important that today we have signed the last document needed to complete this unique agreement”, - highlighted TENEX Director General Alexey Grigoriev. He also noted that the implementation of the HEU-LEU Agreement during almost 19 years gave TENEX the opportunity to develop the profound and sincere partnership with USEC that will continue after the completion of HEU-LEU as in 2011 a new long-term contract between the two companies active up to 2022 has entered into force.
