OREANDA-NEWS. June 18, 2012. Academician M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems is conducting final electrical checkout of the telecommunications spacecraft Yamal-300K.

Electrical testing is one of the most critical phases of ground verification. It is carried out on various instruments and systems as well as on assembled satellites. After considering the results of integrated electrical tests a decision on satellite’s flight-worthiness is made. At present ISS-Reshetnev is subjecting the Yamal-300K spacecraft to this kind of verification. The satellite is being built to replenish the orbital constellation owned by Gazprom Space Systems.

Electrical testing is performed with the help of the automated testing system. It comprises several computers with test software installed on them. The system automatically executes the electrical test program prepared by designers, as well as controls all checkout equipment. In order to demonstrate the satellite’s proper operation in the space environment, ISS-Reshetnev specialists test all its instruments and subsystems.

The spacecraft is scheduled for dual launch with the data-relay satellite Loutch-5B next year. Yamal-300K is to offer communications and television broadcasting services, as well as high-speed Internet access in the territory of Russia and CIS.
