OREANDA-NEWS. June 19, 2012. June 9, 2012 is the date when the advanced technology engine-demonstrator was assembled and successfully started for first time.

Alexander Inozemtsev, General Designer of Aviadvigatel OJSC made a comment upon this event.

"It has been four years since the Engine Project for MS-21 Aircraft was started and the funds were directed to the Engine Family Program for Advanced Technology Short and Medium Range Applications. Development of the fifth generation engines based on the common core is proceeding in compliance with the Federal Target Program on the Development of Russian Commercial Aviation Technology for 2002-2010 and up to 2015. The main objective of this program is to capture minimum 10% of the global market of 9...18 tone aircraft engines. PD-14 is a baseline engine of the new family.

In terms of aircraft engine breakthrough design, production and test technologies, there were no such-like products but the PD-14 designed in our country during the last 25 years. This event was preceded by the immense scope of work performed by the specialists of United Engine Corporation, aviation industry institutes and enterprises with unprecedented financial support of the Russian Federation Government".

According to A.Inozemtsev, the engine is currently being prepared for testing in real flight conditions using flying test-bed on the Il-76 aircraft. This test is scheduled for 2014.
