OREANDA-NEWS. June 22, 2012. In Moscow a ceremony of signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM and the French National Agency for Radioactive Waste Management (Andra) concerning the cooperation in the field of radioactive waste management was held.

The Memorandum was signed: for the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM by Director of the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Directorate Oleg Kryukov and for the French National Agency for Radioactive Waste Management (Andra) by Director Marie-Claude Dupuis.

The Memorandum has fixed aspiration of the parties to facilitate the development of the bilateral cooperation in the field of radioactive waste management (hereinafter, radwaste), in particular, advancement of radwaste management technologies; development of radwaste disposal facilities; public information and building up public opinion when radwaste treatment facilities are developed.

The Memorandum of Understanding determines main principles and conditions of the interaction. The document notes the interest of the parties in setting up a joint working group to identify specific joint projects which will facilitate enhancement of safety at radwaste management. The identified joint projects will serve as the basis for signing separate agreements between ROSATOM and Andra.

The Memorandum was signed in the framework of implementation of the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the French Republic concerning the cooperation in the field of atomic energy of April 19, 1996.
