OREANDA-NEWS. June 22, 2012. Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and Paul van Gelder, Chairman of the Executive Board, CEO of Gasunie held a working meeting today in the framework of St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2012.

The two leaders discussed the prospects of cooperation in the global energy market. They noted the successful cooperation between the companies in such areas as natural gas transportation, scientific and technical cooperation, small scale LNG , exchange of experience and staff training.

In addition, the meeting participants discussed the issues of energy efficiency, environment protection, “green gas” production in Russia and providing opportunities for using its benefits in the EU countries.

According to the results of the meeting, the parties agreed to sign in the nearest future a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in development of LNG supply for the use of LNG as a motor fuel.
Background

Gasunie is a European gas infrastructure company. Gasunie's network ranks among the largest high pressure gas pipeline grids in Europe, consisting of over 15,000 kilometers of pipeline in the Netherlands and northern Germany, dozens of installations and approximately 1,300 gas receiving stations. The annual gas throughput totals approximately 127 billion cubic meters. Gasunie offers transport services via its subsidiaries Gas Transport Services (GTS) in the Netherlands and Gasunie Deutschland in Germany. The company also offers other services in the gas infrastructure field, including gas storage and LNG.

On November 6, 2007 Gazprom and Nederlandse Gasunie signed the Umbrella Agreement on the two companies' mutual participation in the Nord Stream and BBL projects. On June 10, 2008 Nederlandse Gasunie entered the Nord Steam AG shareholders' register as a new shareholder. Nederlandse Gasunie has a 9 percent stake in the equity capital of Nord Steam AG.

On December 7, 2007 Gazprom and Nederlandse Gasunie signed the Agreement on scientific and technical cooperation.

On June 18, 2010 Gazprom and Nederlandse Gasunie signed the Memorandum of understanding on strategic cooperation, which provides for the two companies' extended interaction in the field of gas transportation infrastructure, underground gas storage, Nord Stream gas pipeline construction, scientific and technical cooperation, LNG, environmental protection, energy efficiency, information and cultural exchange, personnel management, etc.

On October 20, 2011 Gazprom, Nederlandse Gasunie, Eurotechnika and BioGazEnergostroy signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the joint project execution for “green gas” production in Russia.
