OREANDA-NEWS. June 25, 2012. Deputy Director General Herman Nackaerts, Head of the Department of Safeguards, paid a working visit to Russia.

During his meeting with Deputy Director General of ROSATOM Nikolai Spasskiy an exchange of opinions concerning topical issues of the IAEA safeguards system development, current state and prospects of the future cooperation in this field took place.

In Moscow Nackaerts also toured to the Micro-particles Analysis Laboratory in the IPPE, which has been recently fitted with the most advanced highly sensitive mass spectrometer Cameca IMS-1280, and met with the IAEA safeguards experts.

The second part of Nackaerts’ visit was in Angarsk where he was taken to the Angarsk Electrolysis Chemical Complex and the International Uranium Enrichment Center placed under the IAEA safeguards. An opinion exchange regarding results of the training courses for the IAEA inspectors in application of the safeguards at gaseous centrifuge uranium enrichment plants was carried out. The courses are organized at AECC in the framework of the Russian national program for scientific and engineering support of the IAEA safeguards.
