OREANDA-NEWS. June 07, 2013. Japan to grant Moldova a loan of EUR 49.3 million to implement the Enhancement of Healthcare Services program in Moldova. At their sitting, Cabinet ministers of Moldova delegated Finance Minister Veaceslav Negruta to sign the respective loan agreement with the government of Japan.

Japan is expected to release the loan for 40 years with the 10-year long grace period at the low interest rate (0.1%-0.2% p a). The funds granted by Japan are designed to purchase medical equipment for 5 hospitals and 11 healthcare centres of Moldova, including the Republican Clinical Hospital, the Centre for Protection of Mother’s and Child’s Health Protection, the National Research and Practical Centre for Urgent Medicine, the Oncology Institute, the Sfinta Treime, a municipal clinical hospital, and medical centres of Chisinau, Balti, Edinet, Soroca, Ungheni, Hincesti, Cahul and the region of Gagauzia.

All the equipment will be supplied by a contractor approved by Japan. The deadline for the project implementation expires in June, 2015. Almost 25% of devices the hospitals and healthcare centres have been furnished with were made in the USSR. 80% of the equipment regardless of its origin has become obsolete and obsolescent and requires substitution.
