OREANDA-NEWS. Ore Sossego, the world’s second largest floating hub, has just been commissioned at Subic Bay in the Philippines. The new hub, for unloading iron ore from Vale’s giant Valemax ore carriers, is only 25,000dwt smaller than its older sister, the Ore Fabrica, in operation since March 2012

The new floating terminal is the result of a major conversion project involving a previous ore carrying vessel. The Ore Sossego conversion works carried out at Chengxi shipyard in China involved: about 4.700t of steel and new equipment, 70km of electric cables and about 10.000kw of additional installed power for a handling capacity of 5,000tphr (6,000tphr designed capacity).

For the Ore Fabrica project implementation, Vale dealt with different companies to purchase, design, deliver, supervise, commission and operate, under Logmarin project management.
