OREANDA-NEWS.  Rusatom Overseas and the North-West University (NWU is the only one tertiary educational institution in South Africa that offers postgraduate degrees in Nuclear Engineering) signed a memorandum of understanding.

Within the document the Parties are planning to develop cooperation programs, which can include cooperation in scientific research work, exchange of specialists, joint seminars, joint text book preparation. The Parties agreed to establish a working group which will develop a list of specific projects.

“We are pleased to announce the signing of the MoU with our Russian colleagues. We recognize that nuclear energy remains an important option for South Africa. The intention is to explore the potential for future collaboration, ranging from education to specific technical projects in nuclear engineering, hydrogen technologies, energy, etc.,” noted rector of the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University Prof. Herman van Schalkwyk.

“The signed memorandum offers great opportunities. On the one hand, it will promote the development of technical education in South Africa, on the other hand, possibility to find out more about modern Russian technologies and joint research and scientific developments will provide solid foundation for the development of Rosatom’s business relations in South Africa,” said CEO of Rusatom Overseas Dzhomart Aliev.
