OREANDA-NEWS.  Today, the Chicago Department of Aviation and U.S. Customs and Border Protection held an official opening for the new Automated Passport Control program at Chicago O'Hare. On May 8th, 2013, Vancouver Airport Authority was the first airport to implement this innovative program in conjunction with U.S. Customs and Border Protection at Vancouver International Airport (YVR).


Today, the Chicago Department of Aviation and U.S. Customs and Border Protection held an official opening for the new Automated Passport Control program at Chicago O'Hare International Airport. On May 8th, 2013, Vancouver Airport Authority was the first airport to implement this innovative program in conjunction with U.S. Customs and Border Protection at Vancouver International Airport (YVR). The Airport Authority provided Chicago O'Hare with its infrastructure and technology, BorderXpress, Innovation by YVR so that it could be the first airport in the United States to launch Automated Passport Control. According to the news release issued by the Chicago Department of Aviation, during the first 40 days of use, the average wait time during peak periods has been reduced by 33 per cent.

At YVR, BorderXpress is currently open to U.S. passport holders travelling to the United States from YVR. The Airport Authority and U.S. Customs and Border Protection plan to open the program to Canadian passport holders next.
