OREANDA-NEWS. In an announcement made on Aug 14, 2013, the Government of India conferred the prestigious Prime Minister’s Shram Awards for the year 2012 on eleven employees of Tata Steel. Mr. Subrata Kumar from Tata Steel Ltd., Jamshedpur has been conferred with the Shram Ratna, 2012, the highest award among the Shram Awards.

Eleven employees of Tata Steel Ltd have been conferred with different categories of Shram awards which includes cash prizes and ‘Sanad’ as a mark of recognition for the exemplary dedication of each of the awardees towards their work sphere. The ‘Shram Bhushan Award’ (a cash award of Rs. 100000 and a Sanad) was conferred to Dewendra Kumar Dikshit, Abhijit Das Gupta, Pravas Chandra Panda, Yogesh Kumar Verma and Bijay Kishore Mishra (Jointly) and Annie Antony, all from Tata Steel Ltd., Jamshedpur. Biju Mathew who is also from Tata Steel Ltd., Jamshedpur got the ‘Shram Veer Award’ (cash award of Rs. 60000 and a Sanad). Harekrushna Kamila, Manoj Kumar Sahoo and Pradeep Kumar Pani (jointly) from Tata Steel Ltd. Jamshedpur has been conferred with the Shram Shree Award. It carries a cash award of Rs. 40000 and a Sanad.

The Prime Minister’s Shram Awards are given away each year to workers as defined in the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 who have distinguished record of performance, devotion to duty of a high order, specific contribution in the field of productivity, proven innovative abilities, presence of mind and exceptional courage and also to the workers who have made the supreme sacrifice of laying down their lives in the conscientious discharge of their duties. Workmen solely engaged in routine service duties would not be eligible. The manufacturing units, employing five hundred or more employees, are eligible for participation in the Prime Minister’s Shram Awards Scheme.
