OREANDA-NEWS. August 28, 2013. The Bank of East Asia (“BEA”) announces that it hosted a “Fun Day” in collaboration with the Children’s Cancer Foundation (“CCF”) in Aberdeen for the enjoyment of children suffering from cancer and their family members.

The event was attended by more than 230 people including 180 CCF young cancer patients, survivors, and family members, together with 50 staff volunteers from BEA who provided assistance and entertainment at the fun-filled event.

The guests were invited to participate in a variety of activities, including specially-created games, a candy making workshop, and balloon twisting. There were also a variety of performances including a magic show, and a buffet lunch was provided for all participants.

Dr. David K.P. Li, Chairman & Chief Executive of BEA attended the event and said, “My colleagues and I were greatly impressed by the strength and courage of these young cancer patients and their families. Despite the adversities they have encountered at such a young age, the children exhibit such resilience and a joy for life that is truly admirable. It has been both a pleasure and a privilege for my colleagues and me to spend the day with these remarkable people.”

In Hong Kong, some 150 children are diagnosed with cancer each year – about one child in every 10,000. The most common cancer among children is cancer of the blood, followed by cancers of the brain, lymph glands, nerve cells, muscle, liver, bone, kidney, and eye. With advancements in medicine, survival rates are increasing with two out of three childhood cancer patients now outliving their doctors.

Throughout its 95-year history, BEA has supported a wide range of charitable programmes and events in the communities itserves. In 2009, the Bank established The Bank of East Asia Charitable Foundation in support of education and efforts to alleviate the burdens of underprivileged members of our society.

In 2013, BEA issued its first corporate social responsibility (“CSR”) report that adheres to the Global Reporting Initiative. For more information on BEA’s CSR efforts, please visit the Bank’s
